Art
Quilts XIX “Permission to Play” is an exhibition of
storytelling art quilts that portray whimsical and humorous journeys
into life. The Call to Artists asked art quilters to allow the fantasy
story, that every artist wants to tell, come alive. Each selected quilt
leads us to an individual story…
Hawaiian Fiber artist Kathleen Kastles finds realism play in unusual
circumstances with the painterly effect in “Name That
Tune.” Gabriele Di Tota, from Florida, creates two
dimensional
with make-believe elements, writes a family story with “Too
Good
to be True.” Laurie Fagen, from Arizona, is
“Spiraling in
Control” and showcases a three dimensional art quilt designed
with clever articulation. The story is a play on words that evokes the
feeling of hard work at play. Judith Roderick speaks volumes and takes
us on a mystical story on silk in “Mayan Journey
Quilt”.
Stop by the Chandler Center for the Arts in November or December to
experience and enjoy 69 fiber artworks that explore art
quilters’
playful responses to the call for artworks that tell stories. The
artists chose important and personal stories to tell and I was happy
and honored to give them the “Permission to Play.”
